Anonymity

The internet is filled with diverse people with different opinions and beliefs. People are targeted on social media because of their beliefs. People known as "trolls" target certain people because of what they express on social media. Some people use social media to express their beliefs which makes them an easy target for people who oppose them. Some people who don't believe in these beliefs express their hate through trolling and verbal abuse.
Social media apps like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Tumblr are filled with trolls. Some of these social media apps like Facebook and Tumblr give people the opportunity to be anonymous. In my opinion I believe when certain people see this they get the instinct to abuse that opportunity. There are hateful people in the world just waiting to hurt innocent people. Being anonymous gives people the ability to verbally abuse others without them knowing who it is. There are times that people can figure out who the troll is, but it takes time and the abuse never ends.
Being anonymous should not be allowed. Social media apps should not give the right to be anonymous because most apps don't mind trolling because it brings them money. Social media apps use trolling just to gain more money which isn't right. Being anonymous simply encourages people to go online and hurt people they don't agree with or are jealous of. Without the option of being anonymous, our society would have the chance to be hate free.

  2. I agree with Eileen because people are getting cyber bullied by these anonymous people behind a computer screen. With anonymity comes responsibility. In which people don't have. The websites like Ask.fm and Whisper need to take it into their hands and weed out the inappropriate comments. I feel as if the person that is behind the screen should know the risks and take anonymity very strongly. These websites are filled with trolls that want to be anonymous because it is easier to say things about people and their opinion.

  3. It is a lot easier to say the things you want behind a computer screen. Businesses want money. Even if that includes trolling. Which is bad in many ways, but that is how they work. Anonymity should not be an option. However, not having that option will cause many other problems, maybe more cyber-bullying, or something else completely. At least have anonymity gone so the person being bullied knows who is bullying them. But then, maybe people would not bully because people would know and maybe do something about it. Which would be good. Companies need to make better efforts at cyber-bullying and trolling on their websites and social media.
