Reality of Food

While going through this subject and learning about modern food I have been presented with many topics that cross my mind. One however has caught my attention. Mrs. Vanderbaan had told me about the pricing on foods and the effect on the community it has presented. She stated how in the past the rich used to be the ones who were overweight but now it has turned to the less fortunate. In the past the rich used to have access to high quantities of food; therefore, making them overweight. Nowadays with the less amount of money we have we are only able to afford less healthy foods off of the dollar menu that are not well for us at all. The United States has a problem with obesity but could it be mostly because of the struggle we face with finances, or is it entirely because of poor choices.
Healthy foods you would find at the grocery store and more are typically found at a higher cost than "junk" food. This fact has led families with financial trouble to resort to purchasing "junk" food. There are even times where a family can't take time out of their schedule to cook dinner so they will pick up fast food which is definitely unhealthy for the most part. It honestly tough to acquire well treated food that is beneficial for your health more than it is dangerous. Many things in the market have dangers to them that are unhealthy for our bodies but they are masked by their taste that we don't think twice about it when me buy/eat these products. Many don't know this but Hot Cheetos as good as they taste actually inflame our stomach lining and cause pain in our stomachs. The red spice to the Cheetos is the cause of this but no one pays attention to it because all we know is that it tastes good. As a country we need to pay attention to the foods we eat and they effect they have on our bodies because many of these products are entirely harmful.

  1. I agree with you. Our country needs to start paying more attention to what we eat. However, I think that it's the food marketers fault. We wouldn't choose the unhealthier food if it was more expensive. We have come to a point in time where price is more important quality and this is effecting us in a negative way.

  2. I also agree with you. I realize a healthy meal can cost up to 40 dollars just for 3 person because last time I cooked the product I purchased were expensive. Fast food restaurants are smart because there advertising there selling substance. For instance, Carls Jr have the special deal which is 4 for 4 Mcdonalds 2 for 5. Sadly, most people like the fact thats its cheap including me.
