This article is about two perspectives on the issue of genetically modified foods being required to be labeled. Should they be labeled? Andrew Kimbrell says that non engineered foods are materially different for the genetically modified foods, and we have the right to know that. Opponents of the labeling say that it would cost the food companies a lot of money. However, the counterargument is this: food companies already change food labels all the time. So to have it say “Produced With Genetic Engineering” on the package would be of negligible cost for them. Nina Fedoroff disagrees with the requirement of food labels. She says the labels would have the foods more expensive and provides no useful information to the public. Also, that genetically modifying foods has many benefits, such as making the foods, and making them more efficiently and in larger quantities.
