Isolation in a cold world

    The theme of the book contributes to the cold and isolation, because let's use an example on Earth when it's gloomy and it rains, it's dark all around the area of where it was raining.  The weather tends to have an effect on people because if you're already having a bad day and it's gloomy and raining outside, it puts you in a position where you're in this sadness and you feel that your useless and can't do anything at all.  People don't like to cold and isolated from the world, they like to be around other people, where they can feel the warm and love of others that they are around.  Nobody wants to be around negative people, because it gives them bad vibes and that's not a great quality to have as a person.  Gethen is a cold and dark place where the people living on the planet, either keep to themselves or they are really rude to one another. On Gethen it is rare that they ever get to see the sun and it’s warmth that it projections along side the planet.  Estraven feels  isolated from the people among him because, for one he is an alien from another planet and he stands out from everybody else, by not having a pointy nose like the other Gethenias and by being a little bit taller than them. He is now adapted to the surroundings of the planet, and now he get’s how the Gethenias move and think.
